Here are a couple things I have learned from the "War on Opioids". When you go to a doctor’s appointment remember the following things:
If you say you are in pain too often you will be labeled “a drug seeker” If you fill out the form that asks for your pain level from 1 – 10 never say your pain is over 3 or everything you say will be considered an exaggeration. If your pain has more than one source, such as arthritis and fibromyalgia, you must be a hypochondriac. If you share any details about what pain medication worked or did not work and know the names of these medications, you must be“medication shopping”. For sure do not mention you look things up on the internet or belong to any social media that has to do with your illness. These sources of information are akin to information from a fortune cookie. Do not disclose, even in States where marijuana is legal, that you use it. To do so proves you “self-medicate”. If you raise your voice, become teary or in any way show emotion you will be referred to a psychiatrist. Under no circumstance mention that many people simply purchase medication from someone on the street, and that no “war on opioids” is going to stop people from buying illegal drugs. Most importantly remember they are not actually thinking about what is best for you at all and are covering their ass.
